Flavored Indian sweetmeats, or ladoos, rusted iron boxes, ageing ceramic figurines, glittering glass bottles of perfumes….. No, we aren’t talking about a walk down a Sunday flea market, or a village bazaar on a festive eve, we are talking about various artists’ interpretations of the good old chessboard!
The Art Of Chess is a group exhibition by twenty five artists which will display chessboards made of ceramic, wood, paper and stone, highlighting aspects like nostalgia and identity associated with the historic game.
From playing on the election scenario of the country and racial discrimination and duality across societies, to fusing Braille with chess, there is a lot to soak in here.

These works of Chennai based photographer and painter, George K, Auroville based architect and artist Adil Writer, Mumbai based artist Bhavna Sonawane and many more are on display at the Apparao Galleries, The Lodhi, Lodi Road, New Delhi, from 22 January – 30 March (10AM – 6PM). The works will also be showcased during the India Art Fair from 29 January-1 February at booth D3, NSIC Exhibition Grounds, Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi.
A must visit for Delhi’s art lovers, or for pure love of the game!
