Legend has it that the beautiful Narayanpet weave, made predominantly in Telangana, came to the region with weavers who traveled with Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji’s, troops.

When it was time for the troops to move on, the weavers decided to stay back and set up shop. They began crafting sarees that echoed patterns and designs from Narayanpet in Maharashtra.

The influence has lasted long enough to be seen in the saree’s distinctive checked surface and zari-trimmed borders today.

Originally worn by royalty and used to adorn idols during festivals, the Narayanpet saree is a heritage weave that should have a place of pride in every craft lovers’ wardrobe.
